As designers, we obsess over every little detail, and for good reason! The right details don’t just make a space pretty; they make it personal, intentional, and timeless. But few details are quite as foundational (literally and figuratively) as flooring. It sets the tone for everything else.

When I partnered with Metropolitan Floors on two recent projects — one in Okotoks and one in Revelstoke — it became clear that the right flooring partner makes just as much of a difference as the product itself. Thoughtful guidance, genuine collaboration, and a deep understanding of the design process? That’s exactly what I got working with them.

Okotoks: My First Foray into Evoke

This project was all about achieving warmth without visual noise — something subtle, grounded, and inviting. I knew I wanted a natural-looking floor that wouldn’t overpower the space, but I hadn’t yet worked with Evoke, one of Metropolitan’s lines.

To be honest, I’m always a little cautious about trying something new in a client’s home — it has to perform, not just look good. But after walking through the options together and learning more about Evoke’s Wood Composite waterproof construction, I was sold. It checked every box: design-forward appearance, high durability, and water resistance (huge win for family life).

Seeing it installed was such a satisfying moment. It tied the whole home together beautifully — warm, organic, and exactly what the space needed.

Revelstoke: The Great Matte Finish Hunt

This project had a completely different vibe — a cozy mountain retreat with clean lines and a very specific design brief. The client wanted a truly matte hardwood in a warm tone. If you’ve ever hunted for this unicorn of a product, you know how hard it can be to find something that feels modern, rustic, and trend-forward without leaning into cold greys or overly processed finishes.

This is where my rep at Metropolitan Floors really stepped in as more than just a product expert — they became my co-problem solver. Together, we narrowed in on a stunning Kentwood engineered hardwood that delivered on all fronts: perfect tone, texture, and that elusive, velvety matte finish that gave the space a grounded, lived-in elegance.

When the flooring went in, we had that unmistakable "this is it" moment — the kind that gives you goosebumps as a designer.

Why This Partnership Worked

What I appreciated most in both of these projects was the level of care and attention I received from the team at Metropolitan Floors. They didn’t just send samples and wish me luck — they asked questions, listened, offered guidance, and helped me make informed choices with confidence.

That kind of collaboration is gold in this industry. Because it’s not just about checking boxes on a product list — it’s about making sure the foundation we build from is every bit as beautiful and functional as the design on top of it.
