At Karen Horte Interiors, we believe that the smallest details can bring the biggest impact and when those details are beautiful, meaningful, and consciously made? Even better!

That’s why we’re thrilled to share a special collaboration we’ve been working on with Meraki Movement, a Canadian brand that crafts luxurious, fair-trade alpaca throws and scarves with a focus on quality, tradition, and soul.

We’ve long admired Meraki Movement for their commitment to natural fibres, stunning design, and ethical production. Their pieces aren’t just soft to the touch; they tell a story, support artisans in Ecuador, and add a layered richness to any space they enter. So when the opportunity came up to incorporate some of their beautiful products into our design work, we couldn’t say yes fast enough.

Curated Comfort in Keswick – Edmonton

In our Keswick project, we wanted to create an inviting entry that felt grounded and warm. To help tie in the home’s earthy, neutral palette, we styled a neutral-toned alpaca scarf over the entry chair. This simple addition echoed the soft tones throughout the space and brought an extra layer of cozy texture to the first moment of arrival.

In the media room, where the palette leaned into rich browns and creams, we introduced Meraki’s Shangri-La Brushed Alpaca Throw Blanket in a deep burgundy tone. The colour pop added just the right amount of drama while still feeling refined and intentional. The double-woven texture and handcrafted feel of the throw elevated the entire room.

"It’s the kind of piece that doesn’t just sit pretty—it invites you in."

An Unexpected Match at Cimarron Estates

At our Cimarron Estates project, a Meraki throw ended up being the perfect finishing touch, and it wasn’t even planned! We gifted our client a soft pink alpaca throw as a thank-you, and when we saw it in their space, it was an instant match made in design heaven.

With hues of pink, yellow, and taupe woven together, the throw pulled colour from the surrounding palette and added warmth in both tone and texture. It was serendipitous, but somehow, perfectly fitting, like it had been made for that room all along.

"The woven alpaca texture brought a whole new depth to the space, and the colours were just unreal—it couldn’t have been better matched if we tried."

Why We Love Meraki Movement

When we select accessories and textiles for our clients’ homes, we look for more than just style; we look for story, sustainability, and intention. That’s why Meraki Movement is such a natural fit for our work!

Founded by a Canadian father-daughter duo who are passionate about design and fair trade, Meraki Movement partners with skilled artisans in Ecuador to create throws and scarves made from ethically sourced alpaca fibre. These pieces are:

  • Soft and lightweight, yet incredibly warm
  • Handmade with care, respecting tradition and craft
  • Designed with colour in mind, perfectly complementing a range of interiors
  • Supportive of ethical, fair-trade practices, making them a purchase you can feel good about

We love supporting fellow Canadian businesses, and even more so when their work enhances the beauty and feel of the homes we create.

A Touch of Warmth, A Layer of Meaning

Whether it’s a living room alpaca throw, a gift for a client, or a scarf that becomes part of the décor, Meraki’s pieces bring a tactile, soulful warmth to a space. They’re beautiful to look at, luxurious to touch, and rooted in something deeper, just the way we like it.
